OUR FOUNDER

Leatheracci (formerly Calvin the Leather Man) was founded by designer Calvin Durham in the late 1960s. Calvin designed Rock N’ Roll gear for numerous musical legends including Jim Morrison, Peter Frampton, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Sammy Davis Jr., Teena Marie, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton (to name a few). Calvin has designed and constructed leather and denim pieces that have defined the look of Rock N’ Roll. He got his start as a hair and makeup artist in NYC in the early 1960s where he befriended designers such as Halston. He used his artistic talent to teach himself how to design and make garments, starting first making his own clothes. His technique is unique in that he uses little machine stitching, but instead constructs his garments using studding and lacing to build the form. He continues to work in his NYC studio making custom pieces that are “completely bad ass”.
